You walk through the Vaal Ruins, the map even teases you with Atziri’s arena sitting right there, and yet every route you try ends at a locked threshold. It feels like the game’s messing with you, but it isn’t. You’re missing the Royal Access Chamber, and without it you’re basically doing sightseeing. I started treating it like I treat PoE 2 Currency on a fresh character: not a “nice to have”, but the thing that makes everything else actually matter.
Finding the Real Key
The annoying part is you can’t just brute-force your way into that room by clearing faster or stacking damage. The chamber comes from a Restricted Room card, and that card is tied to Xipocado, the Royal Architect. If your temple isn’t at least level 75, you can farm him all day and still come up empty, which is where a lot of runs quietly die. You hit the architect, you get regular drops, you tell yourself “next one for sure”, and then you realise the rules were never in your favour until you pushed the temple level up first.
Placement Rules That Punish Guesswork
Once the card finally drops, the league’s puzzle really shows its teeth. Restricted Rooms aren’t free-place. The game forces them onto specific tiles, often near the edges, so you don’t get to build the neat straight line you imagined. That’s where people slip. You toss the Royal Access Chamber onto the only legal spot, feel relieved, and then notice it doesn’t actually connect to anything useful. Even worse, it can block future links if you’re not watching the grid like a hawk.
Keeping the Route Alive
The destabilising mechanic is what makes the whole thing feel harsh. After you down major bosses, chunks of the layout can get wiped or reshaped, and a path that was perfect five minutes ago can turn into a dead end. What you need is a single, unbroken chain: entrance to Royal Access Chamber to Atziri’s Chamber. Miss one connector room, or let a key junction get erased, and the door stays sealed. In practice that means you plan forward, not just for the room you want, but for the corridors you’ll need when the temple starts eating itself. If the layout’s truly bricked, sometimes the only play is spending Medallions to reroll, remove a blockage, or gamble on a different branch before you waste the whole run.
Opening Atziri and Cashing In
When it finally clicks, you’ll feel it immediately: you interact with the connected Royal Access Chamber, the last door unlocks, and now it’s just you and Atziri, the Red Queen. She’s not a standard map boss you can face-tank and forget. The damage comes in bursts, the mechanics demand attention, and a sloppy moment can end the attempt fast. But beating her is the only way into Atziri’s Vault, and that’s the point of all this grid stress in the first place. If you’re chasing league uniques, premium drops, or just trying to keep your run profitable, having reliable access to the vault changes the whole loop, especially when you’re also managing your stash and gold path of exile 2 between temple pushes.
